Giving Back and Becoming Part of the Team
by Kathleen Doll, CBC Alumna
During my time as a student at Columbia, Jesus taught me so much about reliance on Him. Each time tuition was due, He provided in different ways. He reminded me again and again that money was not something I owned; it was His, of which I was to be a steward. As I had the privilege of working and teaching at Columbia for many years, I continued to see His hand in both my life, but also in the lives of the students, and in the way He provided for the college as a whole. My view on stewardship continued to grow as I recognized that all that I have (finances, time, gifting) truly belongs to Him, and I am called to be responsive to His leading.
I have been inspired to give to CBC monthly for many years now, for a few different reasons. Firstly, people who gave regularly helped pave the way
for me as a student: scholarships, student leadership stipends, and residence discounts were all possible during my time as a student because of donations.
Secondly, for 17 years as an employee, I witnessed first-hand the work that Jesus was doing in and through the college: it was something I believed in (and continue to!).
Thirdly, I know the dedication of each team member at the college, and I know the sacrifices it takes to make Columbia the place it is. To continue offering Christ-centered education in today’s world requires a team effort. As those who give, we become part of the team.
