Quest Rwanda Team 2025

by Jeremy Walker (Quest Director)

Our time here has been front heavy and our days have been so full that I have not had much time to sit down and write a message.

I’ll start by saying it has been an amazing time thus far and everyone is doing well. There has been a little bit of traveller related sickness, but very minimal and none that is taking anyone out of participating fully for any length of time. I am so proud of how our group has been engaging everything and anything with enthusiasm and excellence. In our preparation we determined that our teams posture needed to be made up of three things. We want to be…

1. Available to God’s Spirit working in and through us. Available to our hosts and their mission in Rwanda.

2. Adaptable to the ever-changing circumstances and plans on trips like this.

3. Abundant in our perspective. Freely giving, serving, and overflowing with our Mighty God’s resources.

I can say that our team has maintained that posture and it’s fun to see them thrive. As I type, we are hosting 30+Trek alumni (young adults from Kurumbuka’s emerging leaders program) and several people on our team have stepped up to lead various elements of the day.

This week Matt Kliever (Quest Associate) and I had the privilege of running a two-day facilitator training course for experiential learning activities and how to use the low ropes course Quest built here last year. We trained our own students, alongside 35 local leaders and it was awesome time of learning that stretched Matt’s and my ability to pass on the skills we have learned over the years. It was encouraging to see so many start to understand the value of stretching themselves and making new discoveries about how to help others learn.

After the course, Quest and Trek students became the facilitators, using their new skills as we hosted two days of leadership development for local high school students and group of university students (60+ students). Beyond pouring into these students, it was also an awesome recruitment opportunity for Kurumbuka, showcasing their programs and inviting the participants to consider Christ-centered leadership opportunities. In the middle of this we also joined with a group of leaders from Youth Impact Mission (YIM) for an evening, where I also was invited to share.

During other evenings we have been meeting fireside here at the hub where Trek and Quest students have been sharing their stories with each other, which has been powerful. It’s amazing to see young adults from two very different countries share very similar learning from these sister programs.

Tomorrow we will attend the church of a couple of Kurumbuka staff, visit the genocide memorial, and get a city tour. Next week holds many amazing educational opportunities and some newly emerging service projects at a local school. I’ll keep you posted.

Please pray for continued energy and wisdom as we learn and serve together. I am excited for students to return home and share some of the many stories of their individual learning.
