About CBC Camps

Location

Nestled in the heart of Abbotsford, our campus is an excellent location for camp. We have one of the best athletic facilities in Abbotsford with our gym and breakout rooms, as well as a large grass field for outdoor games. Within walking distance are some fantastic trails where plenty of opportunities for adventure await!

Environment

Our goal with all Junior Bearcats Camps is to provide a welcoming environment that is safe and fun! As a Christian College, we’ll integrate faith in small but meaningful ways. All campers are welcome, regardless of their faith background! Our focus for camps is on physical literacy, character development, and building each camper’s leadership potential.

Staff

With fun, qualified, outgoing, and engaging camp counsellors, we are excited to welcome your kid(s) this summer and make their week (or weeks) of camp a great experience. Our summer camp counsellors (most of whom are CBC students and play on a varsity team) have experience working with kids, whether at camps, for youth sports clubs or in caring for children in different ways.

Group Size

As a kid, getting to know your camp counsellor is essential. We want to ensure that campers feel they are known and have direct interaction with their leader. In order to have a great camp experience kids need to have the opportunity to connect meaningfully with their camp counsellor. CBC Camp ratios vary depending on age of the children attending camp:

  • age 4-5 year olds: 4-6 kids to 1 leader
  • age 6-12 year olds: 6-10 kids to 1 leader

Group sizes can range anywhere from 8 to 12 per week and when groups get larger we do our best to have a volunteer join too.

Health & Safety

Our commitment is to provide a safe, healthy, and fun environment for all participants. Our camp counsellors will have gone through health and safety training to ensure they are prepared to run fun, safe and effective summer programming. Having successfully run our camps last summer we are confident in the experience your child(ren) will have for summer 2023.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I pay for camps?

You pay while registering at our Eventbrite page.

Are there any discounts or promo codes for camps?

Early Bird Discount: Register prior to Friday, May 31st  with the promo code CBC_earlybird_2022 to receive $25 off each registration.

Multiple Registrations Discount: Parents, guardians or grandparents who are registering three or more kids can request our multiple registrations discount of 10%. We know camp can get expensive for those with larger families! If you will be registering three or more campers for a week of camp (must be the same week of camp with three or more different campers) let us know! We will require the first and last name of each child and the week(s) of camp you plan on registering them for.

Can my kids attend more than one week of CBC Camps?
YES, we would love to have your child(ren) come for more than a week. If you are planning for multiple weeks of camp, we would recommend that you register early as camps can fill up fast. This also lets you take advantage of our Early Bird promo code!
If something comes up can I transfer my child(ren) to a different week of camp?

Yes, providing you give us at least 7 days notice, and there is still room in the camp you’d like to transfer to. Contact us with your name, the name of your child(ren) and what week you would like to transfer from and to.

How do refunds work?

Refunds, less a $10 processing fee, will be issued provided a refund is requested at least two weeks prior to the camps start date. Refund requests less than two weeks prior to camp will be considered on a case-by-case basis. For refund requests contact us.

*Please note, we cannot refund the credit card or Eventbrite registration fees.

What happens if there are not enough camp registrations for a particular camp?

Cancellation of a camp may occur due to low registration. Those who have registered will be contacted no less than two weeks prior to the camp starting. If the week of camp you registered for is cancelled, you will be provided with the option to transfer into another week of camp at no charge or receive a refund, less the credit card and Eventbrite fees.

What if my child is sick or cannot make it to camp for one of the days?

If your child is sick we ask that they stay at home to avoid their illness spreading to other campers. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause!

If your child becomes sick throughout the day, we will call the parent/guardian. If your child(ren), for any reason, will not be joining us for one their days of camp please contact us.

My child has seasonal allergies, which sometimes cause a runny nose. Will my child be unable to attend for that reason?
First off, please provide this information on our medical information and consent form. Second, you know your child best. Each morning of camp, you will be required to complete a health assessment questionnaire on behalf of your child(ren). At that time, you can also inform us if they have regular allergies that may cause a runny nose, or a cough.
What if I need to pick my child(ren) up early?

Not a problem. Contact us ahead of time and we can ensure that your child is ready to go at the check-in/check-out table. If they are part of the Adventure camp we can let you know where their group will be in order to pick them up.

Can someone else pick up my child(ren)?
Yes. To make this happen, the authorized parent/guardian listed on the consent form will need to notify our camp staff by email (camps@columbiabc.edu) prior to the pick-up. The approved individual will be added to that camper(s) check-in/check-out sheet. Campers will only be allowed to leave with an authorized person.
What if it is really smoky, hot or rainy?

If there is a BC Health advisory related to smoke or hot weather, our camp staff will do our best to keep children in air-conditioned spaces. Outdoor activities will be limited in time and kept to low exertion levels. For hot weather, shady spaces will be used and more water activities may be introduced for those days.

Living on the “wet” coast, we know that rain happens. As long as weather conditions are safe, we’ll plan on continuing with outdoor activities in a safe manner.

Does my child need to bring their own food & snacks?

Yes, campers are expected to have all their own food, along with a water bottle. Check out our “Parent Handbook” for more information.

Please keep in mind that our camps are a peanut free environment.

What is your mask-wearing policy for children?
We will not be requiring children to wear masks.
Will camp counsellors have first-aid training?
Yes, all of our counsellors will be trained in first aid. Some of our counsellors and staff will have additional certification and training too!
What type of transportation will you be using for the field trips?

Our multi-sport camps will take place on the CBC campus, with one-off campus activity on an afternoon at the Matsqui Recreation Centre (MRC) pool. The MRC pool is a two-minute walk from campus, so no vehicles would be used.

Adventure camps will leave the CBC campus at least a few times. Each location is reachable by a 5-to-10-minute walk. Camp counsellors will be trained in how to lead their campers safely to off-campus destinations.
