Diploma in Leadership and Business

Columbia’s Leadership and Business diploma is designed to pair our Practical Theology core curriculum with foundational leadership and business skills. Students will get a Christ-centred, character-focused approach to leadership combined with introductory business content that will help them clarify their gifts and leadership potential.

Bachelor of Arts in Practical Theology

Major in Leadership and Business

Columbia’s Leadership and Business degree builds upon the foundational elements of leading oneself and teams well, learned in the diploma. Degree students will not only go deeper in their theological knowledge, but will also explore leadership at the organizational level. They will discover how organizations behave, how to empower staff and team members, and develop further business management awareness. Students will graduate having learned to balance leadership and management effectively, and be prepared for a wide range of roles within ministry, non-profit, and business settings.

What is Practical Theology?

Our theology (what we believe to be true about God) only matters when it permeates every part of who we are: our priorities, our lifestyle, our relationships, our identity, and our vocation. This is why Columbia takes such a balanced approach to education. Learn more about Columbia’s approach to the BA in Practical Theology.

Minors

Every degree student at Columbia has the option to select a minor. A minor is a group of five courses outside of a student’s major. A minor allows students to experience added breadth in their degree by exploring a secondary subject area. Learn more about available minors.

Practicums & Internships

Leadership and Business students engage in two practicum placements, one with a focus on leadership. You’ll join the team at a local organization where you’ll develop confidence, experience, and hands-on skills. Degree students will also complete a leadership internship in their third or fourth year of study, one that will provide challenge and growth in the areas learned in the classroom.

“I’ve grown in ways that I certainly hoped and expected to grow in when I first came to CBC, like in my ability to read and understand a Bible passage or my ability to build trusting friendships. However, I’ve also experienced growth in areas I didn’t even know I could grow in, like learning how to manage my personal finances, work effectively in a team, and build habits that support my mental and physical health. Overall, the diverse learning opportunities that CBC has provided me with has helped me grow in my relationship with God, my relationships with others, and my knowledge of truth so that I might lead others in a way that magnifies Christ.”

“I used to think that being sent into the world meant going overseas as a missionary. CBC has helped me recognize the importance of serving my community, my neighborhood, and my friends and family.”
